NAMAZ
Namaz Chekirov was born in 1979 in Kyrgyzstan, the superbly gifted and prodigious younger
brother of Talantbek Chekirov, who himself is recognized and published widely throughout
Europe. Namaz was fascinated and inspired with the world around him and had a particular
love of art. From a young age he began to relate to the art he saw, paintings of cities,
landscapes and nature - especially flowers and animals. He began to express his own
world through art.
He attended the State Art Academy in his homeland from 1997 to 2001, displaying real
versatility of subject and method. Since 2003 he has lived and worked in Germany, where
he shares a studio with his brother.
In only a few short years his works have become popular in over 25 countries. With a
masterful execution that belies his young age, Chekirov’s paintings offer an extraordinary
impression filled with interpretations of true originality. The remarkable visual strength and
subtleties in his work capture the essence of time standing still, while maintaining the vital
sense of movement and life.
His current city motifs are an adventure into the cosmopolitan lifestyle. As well as
commenting on the immediate surface architecture and the distant onlookers’ view of the
city, Chekirov takes us closer to the lives of the ordinary people. He approaches their
spaces, the less obvious places, beyond the faade. By connecting with the hidden qualities
of the urban landscape we begin to discover the city’s real character and personality.
